Oh yeah you make me look good!

Create your own video slideshow at animoto.com.

Well bless my soul. This is worth checking out! www.animoto.com They'll make you look good, they'll make your family cry. People will think you have amazing talents plus the music selection is lovely. Gottcha - the free version only gives you 30 seconds. If you photograph family like me that is probably not enough. Now, if my husband can help me figure out how to put this on DVD for the grandparents that want to watch it 100 times I'll be set. You can also just beam it right to your facebook or blog. I mean EASY! I am sooooo not technical (did you catch that my husband will need to get it on a DVD for me.) I mean it was CAKE!!! Try it out! Keep shooting! Bev (free full length code: 3YEARFULL expires 10/31.)

It's more than just a free comb!

It's school picture time again! Whoo Hoo! I remember that as the day we got a free comb at school. Free stuff at school is always top notch! I also remember that my photo seemed to be taken directly after I had been on the playground in a windstorm. My hair would be all crazy but that damn barrett did not manage to fall out leaving me with messy hair and no BANGS! I am a woman that needs her bangs!

Anyway.... what the heck doees this have to do with photography. Well... everything. I take more pictures of my children than I could ever manage to print, post or make in to slide shows with sweet sappy emotional music that will make me cry like a baby. BUT... my husband and I will still pay the $12 for the basic school photos.

Why would I do such a thing when I am able to capture with my lens the true essence of my children?

Confidence. Children may grow up and become embarassed and cringe at their old school photos. However, when they are young and you take these photos from school or from a professional like myself and hang them on the wall in your home, in grandma's home, in their favorite Aunt's hallways it inspires CONFIDENCE in them.

It's sooooooo easy. No Love and Logic training needed here. Don't read a bunch of books about how to build your children up. Just buy the photos hang them up and let those sweethearts shine. Tell them they are beautiful because they all are -- even the ones without bangs.

So, maybe kids are no longer as thrilled by the free comb as we were in the 1970's but I promise you that children today are the same. They want to feel beautiful, handsome, famous and fabulous and having their photos on their favorite walls will do that for them.

So, even though the economy is not at its zenith and we are all trying to live on less; dig a little deeper and get a photo of those gorgeous children on your walls!
I am now 40. I have a better haircut. The dog's name was Killer. The ducks: Laverne & Shirley. This photo still hangs in my parents hallway and every time I see it I think of 3 things. 1) How much my parents must have loved me to put up with a dog and 2 ducks. 2) My dog loved me. He looks so jealous. 3) What ever happened to those ducks? Hmmmm....

Life is a highway....

I was talking to a friend last week who is over 50.  She was telling me I should teach classes to Seniors about how to operate these "digital" cameras, how to get the picture out of the camera, onto the computer and then whatever happens next. Well, I gotta tell ya.  I am amazed at how much is out there on the world wide web to help you answer any question you have whether you are trying to start a blog or trying to split your peonies and move them in your yard.  My biggest challenge is not finding the information it is finding the TIME to find the information.  So, my best advice short of taking classes is to sit and dig on the internet.  It's a huge library of information and you never need to leave your house.   I have been watching less TV so I can find the answers to all of my questions but I seem to find myself riding my bike more than I am riding the highway of information during these final days of summer!

If you have a specific question about photography, travel, kids, Yellowstone (I am a major Yellowstone pro) please shoot me an email and I'll see what I can dig up!

3 Things You Should Not Forget...for your next vacation

I just got home from 3 weeks of personal travel. I wish I could tell you that I traveled to the Galapagos Islands or Easter Island and brought back some amazing photographs.

Alas, I was in the mid-west visiting my wonderful family in Missouri and then a vacation with my little household to visit the KING in Memphis, eat loads of BBQ, play in the river in Hot Springs Arkansas and just have a good ole hillbilly time. So, 3 weeks on the road staying in our little camper with 2 little boys with smelly feet, one Colorado Beagle that is not adjusted to humidity and ticks you can imagine I learned a few things. I thought I would share so you will be prepared for your summer adventure this year.

All I need to know I learned from Betty White

What is a photograph? Seems like a very silly question but when I read articles, books and news in the photography world it is a HUGE question. Is a photograph what the camera captures? Is it still a photograph after I do basic adjustments like contrast, color correction? What about when I make teeth whiter, a nose (or a rear) slightly smaller? What about when I make my 7 year old a flying super man above the Grand Canyon? So what in the world does that have to do with Betty White?

Go on let 'em shoot ya!

It is Mother's Day weekend. You know the camera is coming out. I'm not sure about your house but I am usually the one behind the lens so the remainder of my family does not have the same eye for composition as me. So, how 'bout we give all those 7 year olds a few tips to make Mom look at tad better in her annual we love you photo.

Puke Makes Great Photos & Weight Loss.

On Monday, I went to the zoo with my son's 1st grade class. A perfect fabulous day: not cold, not hot, not windy just perfect. We had a lovely time roaming the zoo with his class. The bus left and we kept our son and stayed a bit longer at the zoo. So, I am waiting with the baby while the "men" hit the restroom. Sitting there with the baby and stoller checking the email not a care in the world on this perfect day. An 8 year old walks up. Stops. Just pukes right there doesn't even try to move to the bathroom. Which as a Mom I totally understand but still it is gross. Now, please keep in mind that even though I am a Mom I still cry when I myself puke. It is horrible and miserable and just one of those "unfair" cards we are dealt every now and again.
